A VCD will accept an MPEG file much larger than the capacity of a blank CD would lead one to believe. It has something to do with the VCD format making use of space normally reserved for redundant safety and file system data, but I forget the specifics. I've burned VCDs from MPEGs between 700 and 800 megs in size.
